Good food is nothing new to the people of Örebro. Here, on the shores of Lake Hjälmaren, locals have long been inspired by cookbook author Cajsa Warg, delighting in her perch with trumpet chanterelles, bacon and chives, or the Örebro classic, Skomakarlåda (“shoemaker’s box”), consisting of sliced beef, mashed potato, bacon and leek. And despite having a long history stretching back more than 700 years, Örebro is no stranger to new foreign flavours.
